Iceland Day 7 and 8 – The best was saved for last

I woke up in my tent and opened it. I have to say I saw the most beautiful sunrise ever! Then I had a little breakfast in the laundry room, as there was no kitchen and I packed my stuff afterwards. During that I met a guy from America. He was on his honeymoon with his wife. We talked a lot about traveling and good travel destinations but he had to go soon, as they had a tight schedule. So I walked down the streets towards the underwater tunnel. After a while a woman with 3 kids stopped for …

Iceland Day 6 – A long way to Arkanes

I woke up, had a quick breakfast and went to the city center afterwards. I slandered through the shopping streets and bought some souvenirs and food. And I also went to the Harpa to see it for the last time. It looked simply stunning and beautiful in the morning sun. Afterwards I walked all the way up to the cathedral of Christ The King and saw a strange statue there. It looked like a woman staying and praying with a green cross glowing inside of her. It looked pretty strange and I had no idea what it should represent. …

Iceland day 5 – A strange day in the swimming pool

I woke up, had my daily routine and during my shower I was thinking about the falling star I saw last night when I was looking for the northern lights. Then I went towards Reykjavik. But first of all, I stopped at an Icelandic bakery to eat some typical pastry. I have to say, they are really good at baking pastry. When I left Selfoss, 2 women stopped for me. The Canadian women were so happy to give me a lift because it was one of their points written on their bucket list. It is part of the culture in Iceland to stop …

Iceland day 4 – Where will my journey end?

When I woke up, I did my daily routine. I had breakfast, had a shower, packed my stuff and so on. Timm, the guy I met the day before, was nice enough to give me a lift to Seljalandsfoss, which was around 70 km away. On our way to there, we saw a lot of young seagulls lying down on the street. I read the evening before, that they are too young and not strong enough yet to fly all day long. Instead, they rest on the warm streets. Unfortunately not every car sees them. During the drive Timm told me he wanted to …

Iceland day 3 – A long way to the capital of the south

I woke up – which means no stone was rolling down the cliffs – and went with my tent to the house. My tent was very wet so I had to dry it. I couldn’t wait till it got dry, instead I put it into the dryer. I was a bit afraid it could get destroyed but it survived. It was also my first day I got into a shower. Nothing felt better than the hot water running down my skin to clean it! Then I had breakfast, said goodbye to the French lads and went towards harbor. At the harbor …

Iceland day 2 – From Grindavik to Vestmannaeyjar

I was so glad that the night was over. It was so terrible that I was even struggling with myself, thinking about breaking it up and going back home. But then I realized that this was not an option at all. Instead I was packing all my stuff and went eastwards. I had no idea where I could go to, but I thought it could be nice to visit the hot springs in Krysuvik. It was a long way on a lonely road and the storm was still very strong. The landscape I was walking on looked amazing. It was …

Iceland day 1 – From Keflavik Airport to Grindavik

It was my first big trip after years! I started at the Belfast International Airport with Easyjet and went directly to Keflavik Airport. It was a short flight and I slept most of the time. When I arrived at the Airport I was a bit surprised, it was a really new and modern one. I went to the Passport Check and the woman asked where I was from and if this was my first trip to Iceland. When I told her it was, she looked a bit surprised. After getting out from the Airport I was already excited! The first …
